The project is to depict an allegorical journey to Antarctica, the land of mystery, the fields of isolation where reality will slowly dissolve into imagination.
Lovecraft’s novel reveals the desperate attempt of a warning from a scientist who as a member of an expedition faced the unimaginable horrors of the great unknown.
This story gives a perfect framework to understand and reconsider our connection with modern nonhuman technologies such as the artificial intelligence or the often-confusing virtual space where all information is reduced to the levels of data. Undecipherable for the human, natural for AI.
This video is an adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft’s novel, At The Mountains of Madness. The animated scenes have been created by the Stable Diffusion engine which was trained on the 2b English language label subset of LAION 5b , a general crawl of the internet created by the German charity LAION.
The AI engine has been prompted through a publicly available, advanced control panel created by the user Deforum.
The score is composed by the Tamás Kovács using sound recordings from Antarctica. The recordings are made by the British Antarctic Survey.
