Near the city of Hangzhou, the river abruptly widens into a bay. An incoming tide gets funneled up the river, concentrating its force at the bottleneck. Especially pronounced waves come with a full moon, like the one that marks China's Mid-Autumn Festival, when thousands of people gather to see this "Silver Dragon," the world's largest tidal bore.
