Jonangu Shrine (城南宮神社) is located slightly in the southwest part of Kyoto. The name basically means "the southern shrine of the capital". It was built back in 794 to maintain the peace and security of Kyoto, the old capital.
These days, people flock to this area to pray for protection against any form of misfortune. While it was once the combat site of the Toba-Fushimi Battle, nowadays, however, it's more famous for its five distinct and exquisite gardens.
Visitors can enjoy the Spring Mountain Garden in spring, the Muromachi Garden in early summer, the Heian Garden in summer and fall, and the Momoyama and Jonan Rikyu Gardens in any season. And for those who love matcha tea, you can enjoy tea service at the Rakusuiken Tea House while enjoying the view of the gardens.
So, if ever you're in Kyoto, pay Jonangu a visit. You'd be glad you did!
How to reach/ go to Jonangu:
From Kyoto Station, take the subway to Takeda Station.

Head Southwest towards Jonangu-michi.
Takes about 15-20 minutes on foot to reach the shrine.
