Nyéléni webinar on Land - Strategies for influencing land policies

Описание: Facing common trends of disappearance of farms, land concentration in the hands of a few and the industrialisation of farming practices, the food sovereignty movement defends the redistrbution of land to those who work it. To achieve the agroecological transition, we need ambitious public land policies to regulate land markets, to reform land governance frameworks and to ensure access to land for farmers.

For all this, the Nyéléni ECA network, together with ECVC, TNI and the Access to Land network organise an exchange on strategies to influence land policies. First, Morgan Ody, peasant farmer in France and general coordinator of La Via Campesina will present the International Conference on Agrarian Reform and Rural Development (ICARRD). This conference will be an opportunity to bring together governments, social movements, international organisations and researchers to talk about land reforms. This is a strategic moment for the food sovereignty movement to put land reform on the agenda and to push for national and regional land reforms to redistribute the land.

Then, Adam Calo from Radbound University will be speaking about the links between land regulation and the agroecological transition, to investigate if strongly regulated land markets allow for the setting up of more young farmers and more agroecological practices or not.

Starting from this global context and theoretical background, we will then explore the policy tools of land observatories as a way to monitor land situations to see whether it helps improving access to land for farmers both at EU and national level with Attila Szcocs, Romania, speaking on behalf of the European Access to Lan network and Daniel Long on behalf of the Irish stakeholder land observatory project.
