Blue Water Baltimore interviews Brian Lindley, Forest Manager at the Baltimore County Department of Environmental Protection and Sustainability, to learn about free tree planting programs and how they help to increase forests in Baltimore County. In this video, you will see a sample tree planting at Cromwell Valley Park and learn why Baltimore County manages this free program.
These programs seek to create forests in residential yards to help slow polluted runoff, cool neighborhoods, provide habitat to wildlife and entertainment to humans. Baltimore County has two programs to help increase forests: the Backyard Trees program transforms smaller yards, 1/10 to 3/4 of an acre, into forests, while the Turf to Trees program requires at least one acre to create a forest.
