Peter Britton Tobin was born on August 27, 1946, in Scotland. Known for his impulsive and violent personality, he faced multiple marriages and a string of criminal charges. Tobin married Margaret Mount in 1969, but his abusive behavior led to their divorce in 1973. He then married Sylvia Jeffri, with whom he had a son and a daughter who died shortly after birth. Sylvia eventually left due to his violent nature. Later, Tobin married Cathy Wilson, a 16-year-old who also became a victim of his control and abuse until she escaped with their child in the late 1990s.

In 1991, Tobin met Vicky Hamilton, a Scottish teenager whom he abducted, assaulted, and killed. Her disappearance became one of Scotland’s most extensive missing persons cases, though it would remain unsolved for years. The same year, Tobin also murdered Dinah McNicol, an 18-year-old who vanished after hitchhiking with him. Both cases stalled, with clues intentionally misleading investigators.

Tobin continued his life of crime and even attempted to kill two young girls, who managed to escape and reported him, leading to his arrest and a 14-year sentence in 1994. Released in 2014, Tobin adopted a new identity and hid in a Glasgow church where he eventually killed Angelika Kluk, a 23-year-old Polish woman. This crime, investigated by Detective David Swindle, led to his nationwide capture and eventual conviction for her murder in 2007.

Further investigation connected Tobin to the murders of Hamilton and McNicol, whose bodies were found buried on his property. His confessions and evidence uncovered during Operation Anagram tied him to a series of unsolved disappearances. Tobin was ultimately sentenced to life in prison for multiple murders. He died in 2022, suspected of having killed as many as 11 people throughout his life.
