Maybe it seems like a bad idea at first, but the headbutt is a sneaky and very damaging strike to use in a self defense scenario. It is one of the few striking tools that can be used in a grappling scenario that doesn't require you to let go of your attacker before using it. Remember to only use it after you have a point of contact such as a clinch, and to use the crown of your head to the face of your opponent.
