In this video, we explore two of the most authentic local markets in Xi’an, China — the historic Xicang Market and the lively Beiyuan Night Market. From morning to night, this is a full day of real local street food and everyday life in the ancient city.

Xicang Market, located inside the old city of Xi’an, is a traditional market with a long history. The narrow alleys are filled with vendors selling birds, flowers, antiques, and countless old items. Here you can taste classic Xi’an street foods such as Yangrou Paomo (lamb soup with bread) with rich broth and tender meat, spicy and silky fried liangfen, and chewy hand-pulled noodles topped with fragrant chili oil.

At night, we head to Beiyuan Convenience Night Market in Weiyang District. Dozens of food stalls line the street, creating a vibrant night food scene. Grilled gluten sizzling over charcoal, spicy Ningxia Lahuhu soup, handmade spicy noodles, braised pork sandwich bursting with flavor, spicy mala hotpot bowls, and sweet roasted pears with rock sugar.
