Pools ist eine einmalige Erfahrung und schreit lauthals danach, in VR gespielt zu werden. Wer weiß, daß er das noch vor sich hat, dem rate ich davon ab, dieses und die folgenden 6 Videos über POOLS anzsuchauen, denn dann beraubt er sich der Erfahrung beim erstmaligen und unbedarften Kontakt damit und hat sich damit schon um das Beste gebracht: und das hat es schon in sich. Diese Filme sind eher zum Wiedersehen gedacht - und für jene, die wirklich genau wissen, daß sie es nie selber in VR spielen werden.

Begriffe wie "Levels" und "lösen" sind so eine Sache bei diesem Spiel. Es gibt nichts zu lösen. Und es sind eigentlich auch keine sechs Levels, sondern nur ein einziger.

Ich nehme mir Zeit. VIEL Zeit. Es gibt Leute und ihre Filme, die rasen in eineinhalb Stunden durch alle sechs Chapter. Ich brauche eine dreiviertel Stunde für eines. Die meisten habe ich beim erstmaligen Durchspielen gefilmt.

Ich weiß, daß es viele Filme gibt, die das Spiel in Rekordzeit durchjagen. Wer das tut, hat sich schon um das Beste gebracht, was dieses "Spiel" ausmacht, sorry. Es gilt nicht, Zeitrekorde zu knacken oder schneller als der andere Spieler zu sein und nur zu rennen und nicht links und rechts zu schauen. Es geht um eine Reise in Innenwelten, die man erfährt. Dieses Spiel macht etwas mit einem. Die Stimmung, die es auszulösen vermag, kann eine Konfrontation mit sich selbst sein. Oder das Staunen eines Kindes, das zum ersten Mal mit weit aufgerissenen Augen sieht, wir groß die Welt ist. Je mehr man aufs Gas drückt, desto weniger hat man davon.

Ein 2D Film kann die VR in 3D nicht einmal andeutungsweise reflektieren. Diese Filme sind nicht mehr als eine Krücke. Möge jeder wissen, was er tut, wenn er es sich anschaut. Ich bin nicht böse, wenn er es sich nicht anschaut. Schon gar nicht bei der Länge des Projekts.

Escher und Tarkovski hatten ein Baby. Es heisst POOLS, und David Lynch war der Pate.

Pools is a unique experience and cries out to be played in VR. If you know you still have that experience ahead of you, I advise you not to watch this and the following 6 videos about POOLS, because then you'll be robbing yourself of the experience of first contact with it and missing out on the best part: and that's quite something. These videos are intended more for rewatching – and for those who know for sure that they will never play it themselves in VR.

Terms like "levels" and "solving" are a bit of a thing in this game. There is nothing to solve. And there aren't actually six levels, but only one.

I take my time. A LOT of time. Some people race through the six chapters in an hour and a half. I need three quarters of an hour for just one. I filmed most of them when I played through the game for the first time.

I know there are lots of videos of people racing through the game in record time. Anyone who does that has already deprived himself of the best thing about this “game,” sorry. It's not about breaking time records or being faster than other players, just running and not looking left and right. It's about a journey into inner worlds that you experience. This game does something to you. The mood it can trigger can be a confrontation with yourself. Or the amazement of a child who sees for the first time with wide eyes how big the world is. The more you step on the gas, the less you get out of it.

A 2D film cannot even begin to reflect VR in 3D. These films are nothing more than a crutch. May everyone know what they are doing. I'm not angry if they don't watch it. Especially not given the length of the project.
