An enthusiastic audience was able to share the thrill offered by the Sabena 747 Queen for the very last time. Organised by the Sabena Aero Club - volunteers and motivated Sabena Flight crew and Ground crew, it all combined to make these fantastic farewell flights possible.

Three flights were scheduled on Saturday 30 October and due to the success of this operation, an additional flight had to be made on Sunday 31 October 1999 to meet the ongoing demand. Even though more than 250 reservations had to be refunded due to lack of additional flight opportunities.

Sabena renewed its first-generation 747s with an order for two Boeing 747-300s.

The first was delivered on 10 June 1986, with the registration OO-SGC. The second, the OO-SGD, was delivered on 25 September 1990. The explanation for this 4-year wait could lie in the fact that this model 329SCD with build number 24837 was in fact the very last Boeing 747-300 produced.

Boeing had tried by all means to deliver a 747-400 to our national carrier. Comparing the wing pieces of the 2 Boeing 747-300s OO-SGC and OO-SGD, we see remarkable differences between the two aircraft: The SGD already had 747-400 details.

It should also be noted that the two 747-129 Sabena were used as a prototype for the SDC / side cargo door concept, i.e. installation of a cargo door and conversion of the last passenger cabin into cargo space. This allowed airlines to convert the entire passenger version of their 747 into a mixed cargo version.
