This little known gem boasts an amazing cast. In addition to the two Oscar winning veterans, Lancaster and Stieger, there’s Amanda Plummer, in a wild scene, and scream, grabbing film debut as Cattle Annie while Little Britches is played by the adorable 15-year-old Diane Lane. Produced by Rupert Hitzig, directed by Lamont Johnson and shot in Durango, Mexico, the film also stars Buck Taylor, Scott Glenn, John Savage, William Russ, Michael Conrad, Mike Moroff, and rodeo champ Kenny Call.
CATTLE ANNIE is not a violent, bloody recreation of those times, but a delightful adventure. The period look is terrific and so is the riding. It looks like everyone was having a good time. According to producer Hitzig, they were. In fact, following the film, producer/host Rob Word is joined by Rupert Hitzig, so you’ll hear all about the development and the shoot on location, including Burt Lancaster’s health issues which created the need for additional filming after the movie left Mexico.
