Hi everyone, and welcome to my channel travel with sanjai. Today, I'm taking you on a virtual tour of the Rai Temple, also known as the Mangkhim Mandir, in Gangtok, Sikkim. This beautiful temple is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Sikkim, and for good reason. It's a stunning example of Rai architecture, and it offers some of the best views of Gangtok.
History of the Rai Temple
The Rai Temple was built in 1892 by Rai Bahadur Khatu Chandra Rai, a prominent figure in Sikkim's history. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, and it's also home to shrines of other Hindu deities, such as Lord Ganesha and Goddess Durga.
Architecture of the Rai Temple
The Rai Temple is a multy-story building with a pagoda-style roof. The temple is made of wood and stone, and it's decorated with intricate carvings and paintings. The temple's main entrance is flanked by two large statues of lions.
Interior of the Rai Temple
The interior of the Rai Temple is dimly lit and filled with the aroma of incense. The main sanctum of the temple houses a large statue of Lord Shiva. The walls of the temple are adorned with murals depicting scenes from Hindu mythology.
Views from the Rai Temple
The Rai Temple is situated on a hilltop, and it offers some of the best views of Gangtok. From the temple, you can see the entire city of Gangtok, as well as the surrounding mountains.
How to get to the Rai Temple
The Rai Temple is located in the Ranka neighborhood of Gangtok. You can reach the temple by car, taxi, or rickshaw. The temple is open from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM daily.
Things to do near the Rai Temple
After visiting the Rai Temple, you can explore the rest of the Ranka neighborhood. There are a number of shops and restaurants in the area. You can also visit the nearby Enchey Monastery, which is one of the oldest monasteries in Sikkim.
