Before a pashmina shawl ever reaches the loom, its journey begins with Yarun—the traditional art of warping practiced by Kashmiri artisans.
In this quiet, rhythmic process, fine pashmina threads are stretched by hand onto ground-set rods in a precise crisscrossed pattern. Two artisans move in perfect synchrony, maintaining tension, alignment, and count—where even a single misstep can break the delicate yarn.
This video captures the unseen labour behind pashmina weaving. While preparing the warp for six shawls, each artisan walks over seventeen kilometres, long before the fabric begins to take form.
At Prastuti Designs, we believe that understanding process deepens respect for craft. This film is an ode to the patience, precision, and poetry of handwoven pashmina.
