Wildelis Rosa, 26, informed her family that she was going to Miami for her birthday in March, but did not mention her intention to have the surgery, according to her older sister, Anamin Vazquez, who spoke to NBC6.

Rosa, who was also a US Army Reservist recently returned from deployment in Kuwait, had her pre-surgery blood tests conducted at Prestige Plastic Surgery Clinic in South Florida on March 19. The next day, doctors extracted fat from 12 different areas of her body and injected it into her buttocks.

An invoice for her Brazilian butt lift, commonly known as a BBL, indicates that Rosa paid $7,495 for the procedure, which usually costs between $6,000 and $18,000 in the US, but is often much cheaper in Miami.

According to NBC6, the Miami-Dade medical examiner determined that her death was caused by a pulmonary embolism due to blood clots related to the cosmetic surgery.
