Описание: On April 26th, my father, Michael Alan, passed away. Through his will and through his attorney, he named me as his heir and the executor of all his assets, projects, and everything he built over the years.

In this video, Johnny and I filmed from my dad’s balcony—his new favorite place—to openly share what happened, the events leading up to his passing, and how we’re moving forward from here. Transparency is what my dad believed in, and it’s what I’ll continue.

My name is Matthew “Matty” Skofield. I’m his son. I’m not an ex pat and have not lived in Costa Rica for close to 20 years, not a legal expert, or a travel-industry veteran with decades of experience—but I am someone who loved him, learned from him, and understands what made his work in CR so important to so many people.

I’ve traveled the world, including Costa Rica many times, and I know the heart, honesty, and realness my father put into his business. Because of that, there’s no better person to continue his legacy and that someone is who he wanted to continue it.

Shortly after this video, his channel and website were compromised and the team and I lost control of the business-merely because a close friend and some time collaborator over the years knew some passwords and altered all information. Feeling entitled and in disbelief of the outcome, this entity, mentioned in an earlier video, felt left out. Well, he was. He didn’t take it on the chin and went into panic mode, illegally operating something that he was no longer a part of.

I’m stepping into this role with respect, patience, and a genuine desire to honor everything he created. This next chapter won’t be perfect, and I’m learning as I go, but I promise to do it with the same spirit he carried: straightforward, honest, and for the traveler.
