Actually, a lot of things about the new Player Plus Meteora: Fender humbuckers that don't feel like an afterthought; these have a SOUND. A very appealing sound, with the S-1 switch being used most effectively. And a tone circuit with an insane frequency range.
Of course, the body style itself. Creating an offset design with body contours that looks aesthetically balanced AND is comfortable to play seated or standing happens once every few decades. Fender nailed it with the Meteora. We have a feeling this is a historic design for Fender, and will join the Strat and Tele in the rarefied ranks of "classics".
