This piece was the second piece I composed to get into the University of New England in Australia for Composition and Musicology. The first piece, for which there's a link below, was for a string quartet. When composing this piece for a wind quintet, I remember taking inspiration from multiple areas, but especially John William's soundtrack to Star Wars and the ring's theme from the Lord of the Rings movies by Howard Shore. At the time, this was probably the most harmonically interesting piece I had ever written.
