STORYLINE
Celebrations erupted on Monday evening in London after Prince William's wife, Kate, gave birth to a prince, who is now third in line to the British throne.
Outside the London hospital where Kate, also known as the Duchess of Cambridge, gave birth, royal enthusiasts sang and danced, and some carried portraits of William's late mother, Diana.
Royal enthusiast Rachel Carter-Eagleton drank champagne as she celebrated the royal birth.
"I'm over the moon, I'm so excited," she said.
"I just got here in time to burst my bubbles and raise a toast to the new prince," she added.
Shortly afterwards a messenger left the central London St Mary's Hospital where Kate gave birth and drove to Buckingham Palace with an official announcement which was then displayed on a easel in front of the palace.
Hundreds of people gathered at Buckingham Palace into the hours of the night to join the celebrations.
