Should we abandon the idea that men need to protect women?

From Kamala Harris to the new 007, strong women are changing the world. Yet fifty years of feminism and decades of increasing status and influence for women, and there are still those who see women as the weaker sex. Few for example have publicly challenged the idea that men are called up to fight in Ukraine while women are encouraged to seek sanctuary.
There is though increasing evidence that in many ways women are stronger than men. A recent study showed that in famines, epidemics and enslavement women survive longer than men. And throughout life they survive disease better than men - after all, 50% more men died from Covid. And across all cultures, women live longer.
Should we see it as blinkered prejudice to regard women as weaker and in need of defence by men? Should women be called up to fight? Or would such a transition be not only misguided but profoundly detrimental to women?
