When justice is blind, who speaks for those the system cannot see?
Produced by COVAW in partnership with the African Women's Development Fund (AWDF), Sauti Yetu ("Our Voice") captures the powerful stories of women and girls with intellectual disabilities in Kenya, and their fight for justice after surviving sexual and gender-based violence.
These are the voices often silenced. The survivors pushed to the margins of a justice system that wasn't built for them. Through personal narratives, legal insights, and unflinching honesty, this documentary reveals the barriers they face, and the movement working to tear them down.
This film is part of COVAW's project Enhancing Access to Justice for SGBV Victims with Intellectual Disabilities in Kiambu, Nairobi, and Narok Counties. With AWDF's support, we are raising awareness on disability rights, providing legal representation and psychosocial support to survivors, advocating for inclusive laws grounded in lived experience, and training justice actors to respond with dignity and competence.
Their voices matter. Their stories demand to be heard.
