LYRICS:
Late night calls... from a hollow screen
Feeding ghosts in a digital dream
My boots are heavy with the city dust
Where the iron hearts begin to rust.
I remember the rain on the mango leaf
Before the world was a common thief
Now I’m a stranger in a neon land
With a wooden guitar... and a shaking hand.
Oh, Babylon’s cold, but the fire is deep
In the secret places where the exiles sleep
We are the roots beneath the paved-over ground
Searching for light... where no light is found.
They sell us water in a plastic soul
While the elders wait for the thunder roll
I see the wires like a spider web
Watching the spirit’s flow and ebb.
But the sub-bass pulse is a heartbeat still
Climbing up that lonely hill
I don’t need a map, I don’t need a wire
To feel the heat of the ancient fire.
Oh, Babylon’s cold, but the fire is deep
In the secret places where the exiles sleep
We are the roots beneath the paved-over ground
Searching for light where no light is found.
(They can’t cage the wind...)
(The roots go deeper than the wire...)
Stripped back... stripped bare...
Can you hear the truth in the quiet air?
Oh, Babylon’s cold! But the fire is deep!
In the secret places where the exiles sleep.
We are the roots... we are the light.
Exiles in the silence...
Roots in the concrete...
Stay deep... Stay deep...
