Canada saw 37% rise in police-reported hate crimes in 2020

Alarming numbers from Statistics Canada show the number of hate crimes reported to police soared during the first year of the pandemic.

The government agency says police-reported hate crimes increased by 37 per cent during the first year of the pandemic, and those targeting Eastern or Southeast Asian people went up a staggering 301 per cent.

Dan Spector reports on some of the racist attacks, which groups of people have targeted the most, and why many victims refuse to come forward.
