✦ In this episode, we are trying a fusion of flavors. East meets west with Wasabi Ranch flavor Kettle Chips ✦

⮕ Wasabi is a part of the plant family that includes horseradish and mustard. The plant grows naturally along stream beds in mountain river valleys in Japan. The oldest record of wasabi as a food dates back as far as the 8th century. The popularity of wasabi in English-speaking countries has tracked that of sushi starting in about 1980. Similar to horseradish, when you grind wasabi into a paste, it has this spicy taste that stimulates the nose. Freshly grated wasabi is only flavorful for a limited amount of time compared to their tubed counterpart. It's less pungent than the manufactured type and tends to be my preference.

⮕ Ranch dressing is a common condiment in the US usually made as a dressing from buttermilk, salt, garlic, onion, mustard, herbs, and spices and mixed into a sauce usually based on mayonnaise. The dressing really gained popularity when it was served in Hidden Valley Ranch back in 1954 in Santa Barbara. In addition to being a dressing, ranch is also used as a dipping sauce for veggies, french fries and buffalo wings. In 2017, 40% of Americans named ranch as their favorite dressing, according to a study by the Association for Dressings and Sauces.
