A woman college student in Odisha set herself on fire after allegedly facing prolonged sexual harassment by her college’s Head of Department. As per reports, despite lodging a formal complaint and seeking help from the principal, her pleas were ignored, leading to the tragic incident.
On July 12, the 20-year-old girl, who was pursuing the BEd programme, had set her on fire after pouring petrol on her outside office of principal during a student protest over non-redressal of grievance against the teacher. She took this step in protest against official inaction regarding her allegations of sexual harassment by a professor at her college.
