A clinical test of temporal summation (wind-up).
Tested using a von Frey filament (fishing line). Pain progressively worsens with repeated tapping at the same pressure.
A useful indicator of possible increased pain sensitivity - but this does not tell you what is going on, only that there is increased sensitivity to repeated tapping stimulus in a specific region. This helps for PART of the clinical picture.
