In this video I ran the Malahide Parkrun in the first week of January, looking to see if I could break 17 mins for the 5k in my second week of training for Barcelona marathon. This requires a pace of around 3:24 per km. My goal was to treat this like a 5k race and ramp up the pace as the run went on.
In the video I break down how I was feeling and what I was thinking during each km.
Spoilers below!
As you'll see in the video, I made a mistake and missed a turn, meaning I had to turn back and run an extra 1.3km, taking me from 1st place to 38th after a comeback run. I missed the sign pointing out the turn so I had to just go by my watch data for the 5k time. Missing the sign was entirely my fault, I just want to make that clear as I think I forgot to mention it in the video, and the volunteer who was running the race checked in with me afterwards to see what I'd missed. She was genuinely disappointed for me even though I wasn't too worried, as it was just a parkrun not an official event! But it goes to show the kindness of the people who volunteer for these runs so a big thank you to all of them involved in this one.
If you liked the video and want to keep up with my runs and how I'm aiming to improve my times, please give the video a like and follow along to the channel.
Thanks for watching!
