The real Rogue Heroes of the SAS
The British Special Air Service (SAS) originated during World War II, in 1941. It was created by Lieutenant David Stirling, an officer in the British Army, with the objective of carrying out reconnaissance and sabotage operations behind enemy lines in North Africa. Stirling believed that conventional tactics were not sufficient to confront the Axis forces and proposed the creation of a unit specialized in raids and ambush operations.
Stirling recruited men from different units and began training them in irregular warfare techniques and special operations. These soldiers were highly trained in combat tactics, reconnaissance, navigation, and survival in adverse conditions.
The SAS earned a formidable reputation during World War II for its daring, skill, and ability to inflict damage on the enemy with relatively few resources. After the war, the SAS became an integral part of the British Armed Forces and has since participated in numerous operations worldwide, maintaining its status as one of the most respected and feared elite units in the world.
