Zumpata napoletana - Italian knife tradition

ritual knife fight or duel, similar to other mock battle or sword dances which are found worldwide,
There are many rules varying from region, style or the circumstances where those
"dances" happen .(in private/public among friends or strangers etc.)
Some of the most common things to note are that there is a highly
focus on "safety" for the audience or just a general overemphasized care not to
hurt somebody´s feelings ...which means both of the "fighters" have to look elegant, skilled an
make a "bella figura".
Even when no real knifes used, every contact between the participants is not wanted and a accidentally touching, must be followed by a clearly "visible" excuse.
Even on parties it is seen as inappropriate between men directly related by blood (father an son etc.).
The knifes should never be too close or even hold too long on the same level.
(if someone is holding the knife high.. the other would hold it very low)
The tempo is is determined by the music.. and any "rush" movement is either a "bad move"/ mistake or can be used to pay respect to the attacker and show the crowd that "he is the better man" and you could only escape by "loosing the tempo" ...if done with elegance, such "expressions of respect" are highly appreciated by the audience.
So ..both man try to show their skills and specific positions/or techniques of their style
(which clearly can also be just misleading or even nonsense to fool the observing crowd about the true skills) All the circling and posing is done with big gestures and mysterious fighting positions. Both will take care not to be too dominant /aggressive or disrespectful (this could be just pointing too much with the tip to the opponents face or too much kicking etc.)..after a "invitation" by clearly showing a opening.. a "good" move from the opponent is recognized by moving back.
