US Senate Approves Jeffrey Epstein Files Release

Описание: The Senate unanimously approved a bill to release the Epstein files on Tuesday night, paving the way for the publication of thousands of documents once President Trump signs the measure into law. The upper chamber of Congress swiftly agreed to pass the measure by unanimous consent — meaning no vote was required — hours after the House voted by 427 to 1 to approve the bill. Trump was not expected to sign the bill into law until Wednesday at the earliest. If he did veto the bill, it could be overridden only with a two-thirds vote in the Senate.

Mike Johnson, the Speaker of the House and a close Trump ally, had demanded that Republicans in the Senate make amendments to the bill first. Johnson said he harboured “deep concerns” about it, including its ability to protect the identity of Epstein’s victims.

Trump has previously committed himself to approving the release of evidence from the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s inquiry into the convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein, who took his own life in 2019. “We’ll give them everything,” Trump said on Monday.

However on Tuesday, he repeated his previous claims that the issue had become a “Democrat hoax”.

Posting on Truth Social before the Senate vote, Trump said he hoped the files would not distract Republicans from “all of the Victories that we’ve had”.
