The three-hour seminar dedicated to human rights and artistic freedom will include special address by Andrzej Kulig- First Deputy Mayor of the City of Krakow for Social and Municipal Policy and a keynote speech by Maria Arena, Chair Subcommittee on Human Rights in the EU Parliament.
Artists all around the world are discriminated against because of their actual or perceived sexual orientation and gender identity. Many of the LGBTI artistic endeavours worldwide have been marginalised and artists tackling LGBTI issues frequently face different types of repercussions because of their art.
In partnership with the City of Krakow, Freemuse, the international human rights organisation defending freedom of artistic expression will host a three-hour seminar dedicated to human rights, activism and artistic freedom. The special event scheduled for 10 December 2020 (11.45-14.30 hrs.) will be held at ICE Krakow Congress Centre (ul. Marii Konopnickiej 17).
The event will be broadcast online and available online and will include a series of artistic performances, the report presentation and a panel discussion. It will take place in English and Polish (simultaneous translation).
The pioneering Freemuse report, "Painting the Rainbow: How LGBTI freedom of artistic expression is denied", reveals that even though LGBTI artists have been facing different types of discrimination in many different social, political and legal contexts no laws, traditions, or religions can entirely stop artistic expression around these issues.
