In the mountain area known as Bear Canyon. There Kirby gained a love for the Old West, listening late at night to his daddy tell stories and sing western ballads and watching television westerns such as Gunsmoke, The Virginian and the Big Valley and listening to a well worn long playing record of Davey Crockett. Kirby does all his own artwork for the covers of his books. Kirby has written many western novels and among them is one he co-wrote with western movie a television actor Clint Walker. This interview is Kirby and Bob Terry done August 2012 during the Kanab Utah 14th annual Western Legends Roundup and Film Festival. This festival was celebrating 50 years of The Virginian Television Series Show and many of the cast members including James Drury (The Virginian) attended the festival. Some of the other Western Movie and TV celebrities attending were Michael Chapin, Clint Walker, Bob Fuller, Don Quine, Gary Clark, Cheryl Rogers Barnett, Wyatt McCrea, Peter Brown,Ed Faulkner and Sara Lane and Diane Roter.
