A devotion celebrating the animals that we share life with. Acknowledging that we humans are animals, that we share the same soulfulness and are formed from the same earth. Suggesting that maybe the reason we can feel alienated from life at times is that we have forgotten this. Suggesting ways that we can reconnect, to feel once more is through following the examples of our animal kin.
Sources of inspiration include: Dr Jane Goodall, Gary Kowalski, Mary Oliver, Sir David Attenborough, Albert Schweitzer, Walt Whitman, Mechthild of Magdburg, Frances Hodgson Burnett, Molly and so many other friends.
Includes a rendition of the following song, that I was sent this week.
My Life Flows On in Endless Bark (To the tune of “My Life Flows On in Endless Song” / “How Can I Keep from Singing?” Tune Singing 87.87.D Iambic)
My life flows on in endless bark, Above earth’s lamentation,
I hear my pup’s sweet woofing voice, It brings such consolation.
Through all the noise and daily stress, There comes a joyful ringing —
The love I share with my good dog,
How can I keep from singing?
When stormy paths confuse my way, And worries rise unbidden,
A wagging tail, a nuzzle soft, Uncovers peace long hidden.
The leash may tug, the world may pull, But still my heart is winging
— With muddy paws and loyal eyes,
How can I keep from singing? ⸻
The kinship of all creatures bright, Now gathers in this meeting,
With every bark and happy howl, Our hearts give dogs their greeting.
What blessing lives in every soul, What grace their presence bringing
— In fur and fun, in trust and love,
How can we keep from singing?
