Surface tension is a property of liquid surface due to which liquid surface behaves like a stretched membrane. Along with a physical phenomenon surface tension is a physical quantity, so, it can be measured. If one draws an imaginary line on a liquid surface, the inter-molecular force acting across the line per unit length is defined as the surface tension of that liquid surface.
