One narrow waterway has enormous influence over the global economy.
Colonel Douglas Macgregor explains how some of the world’s largest economic engines — including China, Japan, South Korea, and India — rely heavily on oil flowing through the Strait of Hormuz.
More than half of China’s oil, roughly three quarters of Japan’s oil, and major portions of South Korea and India’s energy supply pass through this single maritime chokepoint.
Because these countries are among the largest drivers of global economic productivity, any disruption in Hormuz could send ripple effects across global markets, energy prices, and international trade.
In other words, what happens in Hormuz doesn’t just affect the Middle East — it affects the core engines of the world economy.
