This is a program I've written in c++ with OpenGL. Blocks are placed one by one, but a block can only be placed on a colour that occurs earlier in the rainbow. White can be placed on anything, and anything can be placed on white, as an exception.
We do the BFS for some different choices of parameters.
If you're interested in the sort of combinatorial explosion that can occur when we permit gradually more complex building laws, then you will enjoy this video. The state graph does not have repeats, although there may be many edges connecting to a given node, since there are different ways to construct a given block object.
