Описание: The FWN Sky, a Dutch-flagged multipurpose general cargo vessel (IMO 9721633), has arrived in the Port of Duluth. Built in 2015 in the Netherlands as the lead ship of the innovative Ecobox design series, it traveled thousands of miles via the St. Lawrence Seaway to reach this inland freshwater port in North America.
The vessel measures 122.5 meters in length, 17 meters in beam, and has a deadweight capacity of 10,546 tonnes. It holds Ice Class 1A certification, making it suitable for operations in challenging conditions, and is equipped for heavy project cargoes.
Key unique design features of the Ecobox series include: a large single box-shaped hold for maximum cargo flexibility; open-top notation allowing operation without maindeck hatches to accommodate oversized project cargo with no height restrictions; a bulbless canoe-type bow for improved fuel efficiency, better seakeeping in rough conditions, and sustained speed; accommodation and deckhouse positioned forward to protect deck cargo and enable loading of long items over the stern; and two 85-tonne cranes combined with movable tweendecks for versatile handling of bulk, containers, or heavy lifts.
Now berthed at the Port of Duluth-Superior, unloading operations are underway. Shore cranes lift large project cargo components from the holds.
In this northern region during winter, with dropping temperatures and potential ice formation, port activities continue. The FWN Sky's visit supports the transport and unloading of oversized cargo components.
