The reason that this is the best external SSD for Mackbook pro is because it has super fast Thunderbolt 3 interface. The Samsung x5 SSD is of course also compatible with PC that have Thunderbolt 3, but it is not compatible with regular USB-C even if the cable and connector look almost identical. So look twice and make sure that you have Thunderbolt 3 or newer and not just USB-C. The same goes for older Thunderbolt protocols, the Samsung X5 SSD is not compatible with old Thunderbolt. This might be a deal breaker for a lot of people.

But if you have Thunderbolt 3 this is the best external SSD for laptop, both Mac and PC. You can maybe build your own drive with an encloure and SSD but right out of the box this is the best external SSD 2023.
