Our 3 day mini tour started at Burton to see what was there and then onto Derby Station & Toton bank. No filming was done due to the wind, so what was then supposed to be a visit to Doncaster for the rest of the day soon changed when we heard that the M1 north was closed due to a lorry fire, so quick thinking, decided to pay the Midland Railway Centre a visit, somewhere that I never visited.
Tickets purchased for the ride to Swanwick to go and see the locos there turned into being invited into the cab to do my filming, so we take the journey from Butterley up to Swanwick Junction and then on to the end of the line a little further up. A quick turn-round time and back to Swanwick where we departed and had a look round the yard and engine sheds before heading back to Swanwick to catch the train back to Butterly.
Well worth a visit. It was extremely quiet during our visit and as there was just the one DMU running during the day, there were no signalmen and all signals were set.
It looks like the line could do with some money spent on it and the signal boxes, signals etc. I'm sure this could be a very attractive centre with the right money, people and direction...glad we diverted and paid the visit.
Our 1st day finished off at Chesterfield station to see 2 freight trains before ending the day in Chesterfield for our overnight stay.
