A nightingale song in Dordogne 2023
Nightingales (Luscinia megarhynchos) are so named because they frequently sing at night as well as during the day. Only unpaired males sing regularly at night, and nocturnal song probably serves to attract a mate. As this video shows they don't necessarily sing from a high visible position, as many other birds often do. It is a migratory insectivorous species breeding in forest and scrub in Europe and the Palearctic, and wintering in Sub-Saharan Africa (Sahel).

Les rossignols (Luscinia megarhynchos) sont ainsi nommés parce qu'ils chantent fréquemment la nuit ainsi que pendant la journée. Seuls les mâles non appariés chantent régulièrement la nuit, et le chant nocturne sert probablement à attirer une compagne. C'est une espèce insectivore migratrice se reproduisant dans les forêts et les broussailles d'Europe et du Paléarctique, et hivernant en Afrique sub-saharienne (Sahel).
