we visited the BaltiKullan Small Hydel Power Project in beautiful Ganderbal area of Jammu and Kashmir, India! It was an exciting day full of learning and fun.
When we arrived, we saw big Sind river flowing with cool, fresh, glacier water. The engineers told us that the glacier water from mountains is used to make electricity—the same electricity that lights up our homes and schools!
We learned that the water has energy because it is moving. As the water goes down through the pipes, it moves a turbine (a big wheel) just like wind makes a pinwheel spin. This is how water’s energy turns into machine energy!
Next, the spinning turbine turns a generator. Inside the generator, magnets and coils help make electricity—just like magic! The electricity then travels through wires to reach houses in villages and towns.
We also saw the control room where people watch the machines and make sure everything is safe and working well.
It was amazing to see:
How water becomes electricity
How big machines work together
How this project helps power our homes
