Atta Nayeche is known as the mother of all the Ateker Communities that reside in Turkana, Uganda, South Sudan, and Ethiopia and share the same dialect and culture. The communities trace their origin to Turkana County where she lived before they split and relocated to various Countries after drought hit the region. Her grave is domiciled at her home in Turkana and for decades, the Ateker have paid homage to her by going around the grave four times carrying four stones and later on giving their offering. Our reporter Nancy Okware was in Turkana County and filed the following story.
