It was a moment that stood in stark contrast to the enormous political upheaval in Nepal over recent months, and perhaps unexpected coming from someone so willing to rewrite the rules as Balen. Balen shot to fame as a rapper in the early 2010s, resonating with socially conscious tracks tackling corruption and inequality. When he ran for Mayor of Kathmandu in 2020, he was a disruptor. When the Gen Z protests toppled the government, he was the kingmaker. Now, he’s in charge, and he’s leading with faith.
