Lila Kelly's skill session on 10/10/22. Lila worked on different ball-handling moves, reverse pivots and efficient footwork drills. Some of the more important points from this skill session: the different dribble combination moves more than likely won't be used in a game setting and making mistakes is OK. So why do the different dribble moves? We work on those moves to help build her confidence dribbling the basketball. The more confident she is handling the basketball, the faster she can play. The faster she can play, the tougher she'll be to guard.
Making mistakes is important. A lot of the skills session show the made baskets and successes, but you learn more from the mistakes. It is important to learn self correction. When you're in the middle of a game, a coach can't call a timeout after every mistake, so having the mental ability to self correct is important.
