1989 Colorado vs. Nebraska (TV Broadcast)

Описание: In a highly contested matchup with both Big Eight and Orange Bowl stakes on the line, the University of Colorado Buffaloes would play host to the Nebraska Cornhuskers for an undefeated matchup against the No.2 and No.3 teams in the nation.

Missing star tailback Eric Bieniemy, who would break his right fibula three weeks prior, the Buffaloes would rely on senior J.J. Flannigan and first year starter Darian Hagan to lead the way. The Cornhuskers would be the first to answer during the contest, scoring off a 51-yard pass to go up by seven with thirteen minutes left in the first quarter. The Buffaloes would later answer with a 70 yard touchdown run by Flannigan and wouldn't look back. CU would refuse to give up the lead for the rest of the game. Leading 24-21 at the end of the third quarter, the Buffaloes would hold the Nebraska offense scoreless in the fourth quarter. Colorado kicker Ken Culbertson would knock in his second field goal of the day late in the quarter to help the Buffaloes win by a score of 27-21

The CU Buffaloes would improve to 9-0 following the game and would later find themselves ranked No.1 in the AP Poll rankings the next week. The win over Nebraska would be instrumental in helping CU secure a Big Eight title and a bid to the 1989 Orange Bowl.
