1. Amazon launched Trainium3, a 3nm AI training chip that it says is 4x faster than Trainium2 and can cut AI training and operating costs by up to 50% compared to equivalent GPUs, and Trainium3 UltraServer, a system powered by Trainium3 that promises up to 4.4x more compute performance, 4x greater energy efficiency, and almost 4x more memory bandwidth than Trainium2 UltraServers: https://www.aboutamazon.com/news/aws/...
2. Amazon released its second-generation Nova AI models, called Nova Lite, Nova Pro, Nova Sonic, and the fully multimodal reasoning model Nova Omni, to limited customers: https://www.aboutamazon.com/news/aws/...
3. Amazon debuted three frontier agents: Kiro autonomous agent, AWS Security Agent, and AWS DevOps Agent, each focused on a different aspect of software development: https://www.aboutamazon.com/news/aws/...
4. To show that it’s really committed to AI chips, Amazon also teased Trainium4, which it says is being designed to support NVLink Fusion and thus will work with Nvidia's chips: https://techcrunch.com/2025/12/02/ama...
5. Amazon launched AWS AI Factories, which lets customers deploy AWS infrastructure, including AWS Trainium chips and Nvidia GPUs, in their existing data centers: https://aws.amazon.com/about-aws/glob...
Similar to Google, Amazon wants to position itself as the provider of alternatives to Nvidia’s chips.
For customers that still want to rely on the world’s biggest company, however, Amazon also wants to let them know that it supports Nvidia's tech.
Additionally, Amazon wants to offer its own models while backing Anthropic and its other investments.
That’s a tricky tightrope to walk, but AWS must balance all those relationships effectively if it wants to stay the cloud computing leader.
