Waffle loves that his dog friend, Pepper, now lives next door with Mrs Hobbs. Pepper brings Waffle a present - one of Mrs Hobbs’ slippers – and returns next door for food as Evie recalls the time Mrs Hobbs surprised everyone by announcing Pepper’s adoption. Waffle interrupts Doug’s reading to ask for help in turning a cardboard box into a brand new, castle shaped box-bed for Pepper. As Pepper is always bringing Waffle gifts, Waffle would like to return the favour. Doug agrees to help and drags the box upstairs to his bedroom so they can utilise the craft materials on his workbench. Doug and Waffle remember when they made Waffle’s castle box-bed and recall making their first ever box bed for George the cat, with Evie. First, they drew windows and doors, so in readiness for Doug to begin drawing on Pepper’s box, Waffle keeps the box still by sitting in it. Doug calls Simon for help with cutting out. Waffle howls to get Simon’s attention and he comes running from the bathroom still, brushing his teeth. Waffle’s howling reminds them of the time he howled all night at the kennels when the Brooklyn-Bells were on holiday. While Doug paints the box, Waffle sings the Poodles’ Class Song. Waffle remembers singing it at the school show. Doug threads string to lever the drawbridge and they use cardboard tubes for turrets. Whenever he sees kitchen or toilet roll tubes Doug’s reminded of Mrs Hobbs’ mistaken shopping delivery. Waffle remembers he’d never seen so many toilet rolls and getting the blame. Waffle calls through the tunnel for Pepper and Waffle and Doug present their gift – a castle box bed. Pepper loves it!
