Labor MP Matt Thistlethwaite says he is concerned about “massive deregulation and wholesale changes around workplace relations” that are being pushed by Liberal politicians.
The Reserve Bank Governor and Prime Minister Scott Morrison have said Australia will need economic and industrial reform in order to move out of coronavirus induced financial difficulties.
“I believe the key to Australia’s economic success over the last 27 odd years has been the foundation that was laid by the Hawke and Keating governments,” Mr Thistlethwaite told Sky News host Chris Kenny.
Mr Thistlethwaite attributed Australia’s economic success to an “economic summit that took place in 1983 where the Labor government brought together business, the union movement, welfare agencies and Church groups”.
“They came up with a set of policies that were about increasing competition, openness in the Australian economy and deregulation in certain areas,” he said.
