Описание: ⭐ Interesting Facts:
During Nijinsky’s lifetime, the ballet was performed for only two seasons and then disappeared from the repertoire.
The production was considered too daring: it broke the traditional “ballet” language of movement.
Nureyev was one of the first to undertake a historically accurate restoration of early 20th-century modernist choreography.
In many theaters today, the version performed is Nureyev’s edition, not the original.
This dance is not about external technique. It is the vision of a being standing at the border between dream, nature, and desire.
Nureyev was able to restore the magic that once astonished Europe.

Claude-Achille Debussy (1862–1918)
Afternoon of a Faun” is one of the most iconic dance images of the 20th century.
The music was composed by Claude Debussy in 1894 as a symphonic poem, inspired by a poem by Stéphane Mallarmé.
Nine minutes of dreamy, sensual music, later called a “milestone of musical modernism.

Vaslav Nijinsky (1889–1950)
In 1912, Vaslav Nijinsky staged a revolutionary ballet to this music, L’Après-midi d’un faune.
It was a sharp departure from classical ballet: the movements were flat, angular,
almost two-dimensional—like living ancient frescoes.
The premiere caused a scandal: contemporaries accused the dance of “indecency,”
and both the music and choreography became symbols of an aesthetic revolution.
Rudolf Nureyev first performed the role of the Faun in the early 1960s,
after his defection to the West. His interpretation was not merely a reconstruction, but an attempt to restore Nijinsky’s original vision. Nureyev studied photographs, letters, and the recollections of ballerinas from the “Russian Seasons” to bring back the dance’s original hypnotic, statuesque character.

Rudolf Nureyev (1938–1993)
Nureyev gave the Faun precise lines, sharp angles, and a primal, animalistic energy. He emphasized not eroticism, but the mythological nature of the character—a being caught between nature and humanity, between reality and dream. His performance became iconic: many believe that it was Nureyev who helped the Faun return to the world stage after decades of obscurity.
