The Hamar people are an indigenous ethnic group living in southwestern Ethiopia. They are known for their unique customs, including bull jumping ceremonies, which mark a rite of passage for young men, and elaborate hairstyles and body adornments. The Hamar practice subsistence agriculture, primarily growing sorghum, maize, and beans, and also raise livestock, including cattle, goats, and sheep. Social organization is based on age sets, and the Hamar place a strong emphasis on community and communal work. Despite facing challenges such as poverty and limited access to healthcare and education, the Hamar have maintained their distinct cultural identity and tradition.
