Complete Cricket Bat Preparation
Higher grade (typically 3rd, 2nd and 1st grade) English Willow cricket bats will require thorough preparation prior to first use. This is because they are a softer timber, ultimately making them more prone to cracks and breaks. However, it is important to note that cricket bats are a natural product, and they perform the difficult task of hitting a small rock disguised as a cricket ball. This means that they WILL crack – and it’s not a matter of IF, but WHEN. When this occurs, it is usually the sign of general wear and tear. At Keith Dudgeon Cricket Specialists, we offer a Complete Cricket Bat Preparation, which is completed in approximately 4-5 business days after receiving your bat.
The process includes:
– Oiling of the face, edges and back
– Rolling and honing of the edges and toe
– Knocking in of the middle of the face (by machines)
– Knocking in of the edges and toe (by hand)
